QGIS Field Survey Toolkit

A custom QGIS plugin that streamlined field data collection and synchronization for a distributed survey team.

Challenge: Field crews captured asset data in inconsistent formats, and reconciling it with the central database was slow and error-prone.
Solution: We built a QGIS plugin with guided data-entry forms, offline GeoPackage support, and one-click synchronization to the central PostGIS database.
Outcome: Data quality improved markedly and the reconciliation step that once took days now happens automatically on sync.

Background

The operator's field teams surveyed infrastructure across a wide service area, often in locations without connectivity. The lack of a standardized capture tool meant office staff spent significant time cleaning and importing data.

What we built

A QGIS plugin with structured, validated data-entry forms tailored to the operator's asset schema.
Offline-first capture using GeoPackage, with conflict-aware synchronization to PostGIS.
Role-based templates so different crews see only the fields relevant to their work.
An installer and update channel for rolling out new versions across the organization.

Results

Field data now arrives clean and consistent. Synchronization is automatic, and the office team has been freed from days of manual data wrangling each week.
